SKU: COWLIFTHD
The heavy duty cow lift is a very strongly built hip clamp with nicely padded hip loops. It has a double directional thread spindle for fast winding action. This is a big clamp, it is rated by the supplier to 900kg lift and opens to 1m wide. It has a removable handle which works on one end of the clamp.
To use the hip clamp, you open the clamp using the handle until the two padded loops are wider than the cow's hips. Then you fit the clamp across the back of the cow's hips and use the handle to clamp bring the padded loops in until they are around the protruding hip bones. You do not need to clamp the cow's sides with pressure - the loops should just be snugly fitted to the hips. Then you use a front end loader or forklift with a chain or rope fitted to the D ring on the hip clamp to slowly raise the animal. In a barn you may use a hoist off a beam.
Note that hip clamps are only for temporary use where the animal remains under supervision. Often just helping the animal get to its feet and settled is all you need after a case of calving paralysis. You do need to supervise the animal, as once they start to find their feet they often want to move and need to be restrained. If the animal needs longer term support, use the Elfin cow lifter which can be found here.
We have an alternative hip clamp, the Vink unit. Click here to see the Vink hip clamp cow lifter
