The colostrumeter measures the quality of bovine colostrum by specific gravity. You can use this to check colostrum to feed a calf, and also to check milk a couple of days after calving to see when milk is free of colostrum. The coloured scale gives a clear visual indication of good, average or poor colostrum. 

This colostrum meter is the simple floating type, and comes complete with a sample cylinder for ease of use (though you can just float in the bucket if preferred). Simply float in the sample and read the scale. Easy to use and clean.

It is worth collecting and freezing some colostrum as it is vital for calves to get some in their first few hours of life for antibody protection. That way if the mother’s colostrum is unavailable you can still give the calf a feed of colostrum.
