SKU: MAS-D-TEC
The Mas-D-Tec is one of the biggest selling electronic mastitis testers in the world. The reason it is so successful is it probably the simplest, easiest and quickest on the market. It works on measuring milk conductivity, which is same measurement robot milkers are using in their mastitis detection system. Milk conductivity is a very reliable indicator of mastitis. Depending on the animal, milk conductivity can be an indicator of sub clinical mastitis - it often changes before the milk becomes lumpy and appears at the in line filters. As well as being simple, the Mas-D-Tec is robust and able to stand up to wear and tear – and is fast to use, an important factor especially in large herds. To use it you simply squirt milk in the top funnel and the unit gives a reading. Each time you squirt milk in, it purges the previous sample out of the bottom of the unit. There is no need to tip samples out or clean the unit between samples, and the new model has no button to press - it switches on and off automatically and reads automatically.
Regular use of the Mas-D-Tec with any suspect animal can be a valuable tool in keeping your BMCC down.
Genetics Australia offer herd testing services and can assist you in testing your herd or suspect animals if you have a BMCC problem. Genetics Australia also offer other products to assist you in keeping your cell count low, such as milking gloves and dairy detergents. If you would like to discuss mastitis detection or any of services we offer please give us a ring on 1800 039 047
To check for mastitis you use the foremilk (i.e. do not strip first), checking the four quarters one after the other. If one quarter shows a significantly different reading to the other three it is likely that quarter is affected. With practise you can check a cow in a few seconds.
The unit is supplied with a 9 volt battery (yes, battery included), instruction manual and O-ring grease.
Check out the Portacheck products (PortaSCC) if you want to check your somatic cell count (SCC) or BMCC.
